Remember to move, strengthen, stretch, repair

Summer is the season for vacation, barbecues and lazy beach days.

So how do we maintain fitness levels with so many temptations?

The best way to stay fit this summer is to schedule your workouts on your personal calendar. Making fun fitness choices will help the task be less arduous.

Understanding that your physical body requires movement, strengthening, stretching and repairing for anabolic fitness health will help you prioritize your fitness choices and activities.

Movement (hiking, trail running, bicycle riding, swimming, kayaking, surfing) will strengthen your cardiopulmonary system and burn extra calories.

Strengthening (boot camp, weight lifting, power lifting) will increase lean tissue mass and decrease fat while increasing your metabolism.

Stretching (Pilates, yoga, tai chi) will encourage flexibility and increase muscular balance. Maintaining flexibility through stretching has been proved to eliminate pain caused by muscular imbalance.

Repairing your body is just as vital as moving, strengthening and stretching. After your workout it is very important to repair your muscles and cardiopulmonary system through proper rest and nutrition.

This is where lazy summer beach days come in. Relaxing at the beach can help you repair your body and experience better results. The proper amount of rest and sleep helps maintain hormone levels, repair muscle and alleviate stress.

To sum up – plan ahead, schedule your sensible workouts and fun activities as part of your regular summer fitness routine, then make time to relax. Don't forget your healthy snacks and proper hydration for better recovery.

PROGRAM OF THE MONTH

Graphic Crusher TeeLeprechaun Leap 5k

Join us in the month of February as we train for the Leprechaun Leap 5k Race. This fun event takes place on March 17th at The District at Tustin Legacy. This competitive run will also feature team divisions. This dog friendly event will be followed by a party and beer gardens. Those interested are asked to go online at http://leprechaunleap.org/ and sign up under OFAC Muddy Buddies ( cost $33 ).

OFAC members can join us free as we train for this event! Our first training will be on Saturday Feb 4th. We will meet up across from Kaylani's Coffee House in North Beach at 9:00AM. We will train and run as a team! Since it is St. Patrick's day, be sure to wear green and prepare for a party!

This will be the first of many training events with Outdoor Fitness Adventure Club. We really want to know what events you are interested in training for. We have changed our EPIC solution so you do not have to register for access. Just go to ofac.myepicfitness.com and click continue for access to the EPIC solution. When you find an event you would like to train for just go on our OFAC facebook site at www.facebook.com/ofaclub and tell us what EPIC event you would like to attend.

OFAC will form teams and create training programs for your next adventure. Think of it, instead of focusing on that last 5 pounds, we can have fun training for an adventure. Of course you will lose the weight, but you will gain so much more in the process. So, wether it is a fun 5k you have always wanted to accomplish, or perhaps you have always wanted to bag that peak, OFAC is your adventure solution. We are here to help you cross the finish line or stand on that peak.
